Reaffirming its standing as a foremost provider of fleet management solutions in southern Africa, FleetAfrica just won the Best Established Black Business category at the 10th annual Black Business Quarterly (BBQ) Magazine Awards,
Nominees in this category have to have an annual turnover of more than R35 million, be more than 50% black-owned, been operational for at least three years, be profitable, have an established client and service base and contribute towards overall transformation. Other criteria include contribution to the skills development of its employees, active involvement of black participants in decision-making, contribution towards enterprise development, involvement in socio-economic initiatives, empowering business practices and good corporate governance and leadership.
“Many companies invest heavily in systems and infrastructure, but forget that success is driven by staff. We regard our staff as our biggest asset and are proud of being a learning organisation. We push their development and encourage and foster a culture of learning.” says Kamogelo Mmutlana, CEO, FleetAfrica.
Aimed at developing the skills base of blacks, women and persons with disabilities through a structured management trainee and mentorship programme, FleetAfrica dedicates at least 65% of its skills training resources to black employees. The company has become a leader in opening up management levels to blacks and women.
“From having not one black individual on our top management team previously, we currently boast 85% black representation on our Board of Directors and impressive middle and junior management black participation levels that exceed 88%,” says Mmutlana.
FleetAfrica achieved a Level 1 BEE rating this year. Encompassing all aspects of B-BBEE, Employment Equity, Training and Development, Preferential Procurement, Enterprise Development and Socio-Economic Development, the company drives a comprehensive Transformation Plan that is managed in-house and monitors the effectiveness of interventions and achieving its BEE targets.
